Motion

As with illustration, animation is an auxiliary skill that has proven beneficial time and again. Here I've assembled a collection of work which I produced in the role of either animator or director.

The above example was produced in the course of crafting the UTXO Alliance's identity spec, which is detailed elsewhere in this portfolio. In creating UTXO motion assets, I directed a duo of animators, starting by creating comprehensive storyboards to guide the project.

One of our key challenges was the requirement to use stock footage and photography, and to bring disparate elements together into a cohesive whole. Auditioning early proofs, this immediately became apparent as we cycled through several versions searching for the right feel. Tap the storyboards image to see the initial visual spec, then note the way it evolved when viewing the video.

This project consisted of about 50 instagram videos, produced over the course of a year for streetwear retailer Twillmkt. Integrating a workflow that started with label-produced photo and video assets and ended with my animations, I fashioned quick clips showcasing each piece, as well as several clips focused on events or holidays. My work was focused on finding ways to express Twillmkt's brand through motion, typography, and image selection. In the process I put together an exceptionally efficient workflow for these projects.

The next example is an experimental animation produced during my time with Input Output. This graphic was born out of a project that took a fresh look at learning materials used in blockchain education. In this case, the question was, "What would the actual addition of a new block to the chain look like?"

As Lead Product and Interface Designer for the Univoice language learning app, I wore many hats. This included being tasked with creating animated assets, ranging from promotional videos for app features, to assets that would figure in the development process. Notably, the latter proved very effective at demonstrating for technical staff the intention behind UI storyboards.

Here is another interface demo, this time a one-off done at Input Output. Teaming up with IO's UI/UX team, I put together this animated GIF for a tweet showcasing the NFT feature of the Lace wallet.

The above project consisted of a series of animated Twitter posts highlighting the advantages of Cardano's UTXO accounting model. I worked with an animator to design layouts which were then imported from my Illustrator files for out collaboration in After Effects.

I've recently been learning Cinema 4D, an area where animation skills come into play alongside 3D modeling, textures, lighting and camera work. Currently few in number, these examples will multiple as my skills develop in coming months.
